There is a full of health alternative to eating out.Subway at a Hanover Mall is one local eatery that has been offering full of health choice equipment upon a menu for customers who seek to move away from a sodium as well as fat served up elsewhere. The grill has recently been acknowledged by a Hanover Board of Health as a first establishment to suggest full of health menu choices as part of a boards Healthy Hanover Menu Choices program.I feel honored to be recognized for an important part of a resolution to improving peoples health by offering full of health menu options, said Subway Hanover Mall owner Antonio Pereira.Pereira, who said he is in a process of building another Subway in Pembroke, is aware of a change in attitudes about eating a more full of health diet.I think that people are starting to get more conscious about their food habits, as well as all a unhealthy foods that they are consuming upon a daily basis, especially in restaurants, he said.Subways whole grain 6-inch subs were submitted as full of health menu choices. With a obesity numbers growing as well as growing, not many restaurants have enough full of health choices upon a menu, Pereira said. Thats where Subway comes in, with our many full of health choices upon our menu. With all our different sandwiches as well as salads, we have less sodium, trans fat as well as calories that will be consumed. It was a desire to shine a light upon healthier menu options for patrons of Hanover restaurants that prompted a board of health to initiate a program last month.Hanover Health Agent Tony Marino said it was board member Lynn White who came up with a idea for a voluntary program.Obviously, full of health eating is very important, Marino said. Eating is a social thing. You want to be able to go out as well as not worry about tall fat as well as tall sodium. A lot of restaurants have full of health options.Restaurants that choose to suggest menu choices that meet discipline based upon a American Heart Association Guidelines will be given recogn! ition as a Healthy Hanover Restaurant.Marino said a goal of a program is to provide full of health choices. Not everything upon a menu needs to meet a standards. Its relatively new, he said of a program. Its not to push anyone. Its just a way to let people know there are other options. The applicant will submit an analysis of key nutrient standards along with an application to a Hanover Board of Health documenting that a standards have been met. The board will review a applications as well as endorse a standards.According to Marino, restaurants will be required to label these menu choices with specific wording including calories, fat content, sodium content, in order to concede patrons to make informed choices towards full of health eating.Healthy Hanover Menu Choices have specific nutrient discipline for added sugars, fiber, whole grains, lean proteins, fats, sodium as well as sugared beverages.Pereira said a full of health equipment are popular at his establishment.Turkey breast upon 9-grain wheat or honey oat, he said, naming one of a more in-demand sandwiches. Also ranking near a top, Pereira said, is a veggie delite, a chicken teriyaki, roast beef as well as roasted chicken.Any of those, combined with all a fresh vegetables, he said.Marino said Subway received a certificate from a board of health for their part in a Healthy Hanover Menu Choices program. Its something they can put up in their establishment that shows people their full of health menu choices met our standards, Marino said, adding that he thought Subways menu, as well as their appearance in a program, is great.Pereira said he thinks his grill has what it takes when it comes to full of health choices.Maybe, if we spread a word about eating healthy, more people will consider it, he said.More information upon a Healthy Hanover Menu Choices program can be found at a towns website: www.hanover-ma.gov or by calling a Hanover Board of Health at 781-826-4611.Ruth Thompson can be reached at rthompson@wickedlocal.com.
