Healthy Communities still in need of toys

SILVER SPRINGS--The Healthy Communities Coalition/Silver Stage Task Force is still in need of more toys during this final week of toy collection, reported Cara Childs of the Coalition/Task Force.Childs also indicated gift items are needed in particular for teenagers.Locals are encouraged to donate a toy at the Silver Springs Senior Center, Village Market or the Silver Stage Library.Donors can also write a check to the Healthy Communities Coalition and indicate in the memo line that the money is for the Silver Springs/Stagecoach Toy Drive.Childs also indicated that families who may have missed the deadline can still sign up by calling her at 775-315-2990, or the Healthy Communities Coalition office at 775-246-7550, or by stopping by the Lyon County Human Services Office in Silver Springs.As of Friday, there were 170 children signed up for the program, and they will receive their gifts on Saturday (Dec. 17) from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Silver Springs Elementary School's cafeteria. During that time, families will be served chili, and children will have an opportunity to visit with Santa.The Task Force is also working with Toys for Tots program. An Angel Tree has been assembled at the Silver Stage Library, where donors can purchase a gift under $25 for a boy or girl. Gifts must be returned by Thursday.
